Prototype (Management Desktop App)

Proto.io was the chosen software to develop the management dashboard. Originally, Invision was experimented with. The hotspots were powerful, but based on the timeframe we were working with, the decision was made to use Proto.io, because it too offered hot spots, and we didn't have to learn the new features and functions of Invision.

Proto.io made it easy to create the huge scrollable containers that we included for our tabbed content. We knew this was essential to our prototype, as we intended to test it on some of the workers at Levi's as part of our user testing, since we did actually include features that they wanted to see, like an automated rota builder and shift swap function.

The prototype also helped massively with user testing. We presented the people at Levi's with the newly designed suite during the design process. Here it was clear to see that our tabbed scrollable containers came as an instinctive interaction.

It was interesting to see that even before a manager was asked to perform certain tasks, they automatically navigated to certain pages first when exploring. Shifts were a massive opportunity for both managements and employees, and the way the user easily navigated and clearly saw his personal feed of information was both exciting and relaxing for him.

The Proto.io application also helped test different devices. We fired up an iPad to see if a more portable version of the interface was also practical. The swipe navigation was very successful, and the communication aspect of the system, including messages and bulletins were popular. This will be down to the social element and design that inspired this. For example, iMessage and Facebook events.
